Rewiring my 1929

I am going to rewire my 1929 sedan. Is there any reference or resource materials out there with wire gauges for the different component? Also I have heard the ignition wiring on these can be very quirky. When I removed the engine I removed the wire from the distributor and kept all the components in tact. I was afraid to take the connection at the distributor end apart as I read they are tricky.

Any advice or tricks on the ignition wiring is appreciated as well. I still don't have an engine so I am busying myself with other stuff. I hope the engine will be here in a few weeks. Then on to “will it run?”

Thanks

OK, so while I wait for my engine, I rewired the 29. I think it came out pretty good. I have a few wires that are a bit long for their purpose and the horn wire for some reason looks like it might be a bit short. I can make those adjustments once the engine is in and the harness and other components are secured.

It was 2 days of just research, notes, wire tracing and drawings. Then I removed the loom from the old harness and set about replacing 1 wire at a time. Everything is replaced except for the Ignition and coil wires as they were in good shape. I just replaced the ends that attach to the coil.

So I have 2 issues now. 1. How do I test everything to ensure I have done this right? (I will be doing a lot of continuity testing today and tomorrow) And 2. How to ground everything properly. With a car that is partially wood… grounding seems a challenge to me. I know some of the fixtures (headlights, tail lights, heater) ground by direct connection to the body or frame. On my 53 I hardwired a ground to each fixture. The dome light has a ground wire that terminated under the dash. I don't know where it grounds to as the dash is mounted on wood.

I’m not sure if I’m missing other details, some of the original wires were badly broken. I plan to put the negative Battery terminal to the frame and a ground strap from the frame to the engine/tranny. Do I need ground wires to the body as well seeing there is a lot of wood between the frame and the body.

I was able to test the dimmer and brake light switches and luckily they work. No idea if the temp gauge, ammeter, light switch or other gauges work. I would like to do as much testing as possible before I connect a battery.

Any advice on grounds or testing is appreciated.

Thanks
