Generator turning after switching off the car

1938 generator turns, like a motor, after turning off the car. Clearly the battery is feeding it. Sometimes, if I press the starter (like to turn on the motor), it stops. Other times I have to disconnect the battery. Where should I look at to fix it? Thanks.

Hi Celso

I assume you don't have a belt on the generator.  🙂

The cutout points in your voltage regulator are sticking closed.

The fix may be as simple as lightly dressing the points with a point file, or you may need to replace the regulator.
