Battery tender - can I wire it to the regulator?

I want to add a low amperage battery tender for my 41 SD.   Due to the layout of my garage (and ease of plugging and unplugging), it would be best if I fed it from the drivers side thru the grill.   I'm thinking of running the wire next to the radiator where the horn wire passes thru and up to the battery terminal of the regulator.   I can pick up a ground at the terminal blocks near the front corner of the hood area.

Is this good enough?

I can not see a problem connecting positive to the battery side of the regulator as it is a direct connection though I would make sure the ground wire is at least equal size all the way to the frame as most battery tenders I know of only run at 2 or 3 amps where as the generator will peak at 9 or 10 amps.

Thanks Tony.   Waiting for my tender to come in the mail and the temperature to drop about 20 degrees and I'll get it installed.
