[Solved] Parking brake adjustment

I have replaced the rear brakes on my 51 and have them adjusted correctly. Now I'm trying to adjust the parking brakes. The driver's side works fine but the passenger side does not tighten so I think this needs to be adjusted better. The service manual says to pull the handle out "...7 clicks of Pawls not 7 notches". I have no idea what that means. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Same thing. Just pull the brake handle seven clicks.

@ruscar Russell,

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually, that's what I did but I wasn't sure if I did the right thing.

I am not sure about the 51 set up but I think the handle pulls 1 cable that in turn pulls a 2nd cable through an equaliser connected to each wheel. If this is the case the equaliser isnt working properly or the left side cable maybe siezed. My 38 the handle pulls the handle pulls a rod that pulls 2 cables with separate adjusters, in this setup you need to adjust each cable seperately for equal operation.

@anthony-williamson Tony,

Thanks for posting. From what I can see, the handle pulls two separate cables going to each wheel. They can be adjusted individually which is what I'm in the process of doing. It all really hinges on getting the primary brakes adjusted correctly and then the parking brake can be done. I'm learning new things every day.

Thanks to all for helping me with this. I adjusted both sides as per the service manual and your advise and I'm happy to report that all is working as it should. Both wheels lock up tight with handle pulled all the way out and fully release when let in. Again, thanks for all the great help.
