Has anyone replaced the 235 stock engine with a big block (454) in one of these types of trucks. Curious as to what modifications need to be done. Such as the steering box - is it in the way of the manifold. Looks like there is a cross member made for a small block chev conversion. Thanks
@a134743 Welcome to VCCA chat. If you haven't already done so, you should probably register and post your question over on stovebolt.com. It's a truck specific site and they are much more into high performance modifications that most of us on this site. They have an extensive Tech Tips section as well.

@tiny @a134743 I think it is a direct bolt-in conversion. After all, the 454 is a Chevy engine. Go to your local Chevy dealer. They should have the mounts and everything else you will need. Typical time for this operation, from driver in to drive out should be around 6 hours. Good luck with your project.

A 454 is a direct bolt-in for a 53 pickup? I'd never have thought it. The fat kid learned something today.

I wonder if Mike read the year wrong because it won’t bolt to a 235 bell housing.
Sorry for the confusion, Boys. It was my sarcastic reaction to the absurdity of putting a 454 V8 in a vintage panel truck. I hope he will get one of those "crying little boy" dolls to lean against it when he takes it to shows.
