The upper left side tailgate bolt on my !948 Chevy Fleetmaster Woodie had broken off. Does anyone know where I can get another one? The inside of the bolt is flat with a hex head and the outside has a truss head. Any help is appreciated.

Originally the outside was a chrome plated capped nut with a chrome plated phillips head machine screw from the inside. Finding capped nuts is like finding hen’s teeth. If yours have been changed to a typical hex nut and arrangement, Iwould polish the head on a stainless carriage bolt and use a stainless nut and washer on the inside.

I found a  binding barrel on Zoro.com. Pictures of the binding barrel and specs attached. i had a machine shop drill the barrel out more, then I cut the barrel and screw to fit the length needed. Here’s the completed project.
