I have a '57 Bel Air 2 door hard top. Equipped with the V8 283 and overdrive. 3 speed manual on the column. Recently, I have noticed a high-pitched squeal when accelerating. It doesn't seem to be coming from the water pump, alternator or any belts.
Any possible causes and corrective actions will be appreciated.
Thank you!!!
Best regards...Rick

Can you replicate it when not moving, while under the hood listening?

Now the task is to track down the general area it originates from. Squealing under acceleration is textbook for loose/worn out belts. If you can hear it while you're under the hood you can use an automotive stethoscope or long screwdriver to pinpoint the area making the noise. Are you familiar with the method of using a screwdriver as a stethoscope?

@tiny Thank you!!!
Yes…I’m familiar with the screwdriver procedure. I appreciate your time and input. I will give it a try.
Best regards!!!
The screwdriver method works but a stethoscope works orders of magnitude better. It's amazing to me what I can hear using one. I highly recommend buying one to anyone who tinkers mechanically with a car.
