How does one install a new boot on the vaccum shifter mechanism?  I have never put one on but understand that there is a certain way to do it to avoid rupture of the boot.  I need to install one on my 41.  Any advice on how to best proceed or someone I can send it to to do it for me.  Thanks, Charlie

Rather than removing the tube which is referred to as the “valve assembly (4.072)” in the Master Parts List, I have always used the lots of lube and stretch method, hoping for the best.  This method works as long as the rubber is supple, but will say I have ripped them in the past.  Attached is a picture showing the canister with the valve assembly removed but it did take some effort to disassemble it since it was stuck.  The valve assembly does need to slide freely for the vacuum shift to work.  Mike
