The oil cap is not on the valve cover in this car like on most engines now. The other day I went to add oil and the cab was extremely tight. Had to use a wrench to twist it off. I went to put it back on and it is tight. It is like the gasket in it has swollen for some reason. I have never seen anything like this. Any ideas of what to do? Can the gasket be changed out in the cap? It does not appear to have been cross threaded if that is even possible with one like this.
I looked at The Filling Station and Chevys of the 40 and they do not carry the cap.

I changed the gasket on my 38 because the cork had crumbled. I put a synthetic rubber material in it. I can't imagine a cap being that tight.

The old seal is hard an swollen. I am going to try and see if my local NAPA has a replacement one this weekend. Not sure what else to try or why this happened.

If you're not able to find a suitable synthetic material it's fairly easy to find sheets of cork.
