Cheers! New member here hoping to get some informed opinions on what to do to make my vehicle start more predictable. Not starting after a few days is a bit of work. With battery well maintained it wont fire. After pouring a few tablespoons of gas down the carburetor it will usually turn over. Carb also seems to be leaking gas after pouring some down the throat. Rebuild carb? Replace gaskets? Fuel pump issues? Where to start? Thanks in advance!

Not saying your carburetor doesn't need rebuilt but your issue is not uncommon. Many of us have electric fuel pumps in the fuel line with a momentary switch to refill the bowl after the car sits for an extended period of time. I have one on my 53 but not on my 38. The 38 takes a while to get gas back to the carb after sitting for a while. There was just an article in the G&D about putting an electric pump on your car for priming the system. If you do a search of the old site there are several threads about electric pumps archived there.

@tiny  Thanks for the input!!  Good place to start. Will probably need to have the carb rebuilt at sometime as well. Sorry for my ignorance but what is the G&D?

Martin, I might be wrong, but my theory is that the alcohol content in modern gasoline hastens the evaporation of the fuel in the bowl. Many of us experience the same problem you are having. My 1936 truck and 1935 car act the same as you are describing. My routine is to spin the engine long enough to get some fuel in the card, then pump the accelerator to squirt gas directly down the gullet.
