It's been a while since I've shipped anything of any size. Holy Carp it's nuts what's being charged. I have a pending sale of my dipper tools. I boxed them and put them on my scale to get a shipping cost for the potential buyer. Wow! A 13 pound box 36x15x8 is $38 UPS and $75 USPS Ground Advantage! Not all that long ago I made and sold wooden bat houses that weighed almost 20 pounds and shipped in a box nearly as big and paid under $20 to ship.

@tiny Tiny, Welcome to the world we live in. To add insult to injury, why not ask how much to insure the package at USPS. There was a time when I insured every package I shipped. The irony is that the high cost of USPS insurance means that they realize there is a high probability that they will lose or destroy your package. My hat is off to the front line people at USPS but it has been grotesquely mismanaged for decades. They need to steal a former UPS or Fed Ex executive to take over.

Discussing that would be political so I'll refrain. Maybe we can discuss it face to face on the SFT in Texas. You going?

Have you tried FEDX Ground?  There are so many options in shipping that one needs a degree in "logistics" and "analytics" to get the best outcome. And the long and the short of it is the big volume shippers get all the discounts and the average Joe gets to supply the "'Profit margin". Unfortunately that is true in many other industries .

FedEx has a pretty poor reputation for getting packages to the correct address around here. I'd hate to trust them with something that can't easily be replaced. Our local community Facebook page has people posting that FedEx delivered their package to the wrong house and asking if anyone has it.

@tiny Yes Tiny, we are planning to be at the tour.

I don't think the situation at the top of USPS points the finger at any political party. It is a horrible idea for the management of such a large government enterprise, to be left up to an appointee. It needs to be done by someone who has experience in getting items from one place to another, efficiently, safely, and for a price that is reasonable. Being a political insider, on any side, does not qualify someone for the job.

Agreed. We should probably leave it there. Remotely political is verboten so we've kind of pushed the boundary. Don't make me punish myself. 😀

Whatever you do, please avoid using the bus lines.  They offer “insurance” at a premium price, but buried in the micro fine print in the contract exclude auto parts among a long list of other items.
