I'm taking my newly acquired 40 SD 4 door to a local old school garage for an extensive base-line PM: wheel balance, lube, wheel bearing ck, etc.. I am new to the world of vintage Chevys and would appreciate any suggestions for items to add to such a PM checklist. I have done an oil change, new plugs, compression check, sway bar bushing & link replacement; things I am physically able to do and have the equipment to do. All suggestions are welcomed.

I like your list. I'll bet the folks at the garage will have some useful input. How about brakes?

I am a big fan of making sure the brakes and tires are in good shape before going to far with the driveline.  I rank the ability to stop higher than the ability to go.

Also have a check of the fluid level in the transmission.  One issue I found after we got our 41 Master Deluxe on the road was that the fluid level kept dropping.  Found the seal between the torque tube and the transmission had worn out.

Make sure to oil the starter and the generator.  I did not know I had to do these and found out the hard way when the bearing in the generator seized.

Do not be upset if after you get it on the road it takes some time to find everything if the car has been sitting for some time.  Seals may dry up and not leak until it is running or other things appear as the first miles are put back on it.

Welcome to the hobby, have fun.

Thanks for the input. I agree re brakes. And yes on the starter and generator lube. I've had other vintage cars with same lube requirement. While I have your attention, i assume the transmission fill hole is on the side of the case and bottom of hole is the fill line? I have several Chevy manuals and they tell me everything re transmission oil except this. Thanks again.
