Hey Guys,

Replacing my bendix drive on 31 Chevy Sport Roadster.

Do one need to lubricate the bendix drive pinion gear / sleeve with oil or grease or leave dry?

Lost my maintenance manual, appreciate your help

Regards

Awie

I would oil it with engine oil. That's just my opinion, not from any printed service info.

@35mike The previous bendix had some oil on it and it got sticky over time, guess dust and grime draws to the oil

@oukar Given the way we use our old cars today, I think it would take a loooong time for dust and dirt to corrupt a cleaned and oiled starter drive. My cars have to drive on 3 miles of gravel road every time they make a round trip from home. I have no issues with gummed -up starter drives. At the same time, I will say that I have removed a lot of starters with a dry drive and no evidence that they were problematic. Good luck.
