Older vehicles create memories for me and this basic, 230 cubic inch six cylinder Powerglide sold new in September 1965 at the former Stomps Chevrolet in Dayton, Ohio, still clicks many boxes! In July 1988, my wife and I purchased the car from the original owner’s estate. She was no kidding an 87-year-old, never married, retired librarian who we know made one trip north to Eastern Canada, but otherwise drove very little. The BelAir had 51,000 miles at that time.We daily drove the car for a year before a rebuild of the original Powerglide, replacement of the front outer fenders with a pair from Arizona, and cosmetic refresh in original Artesian Turquoise. In February 2026 the odometer shows just under 73,000 miles. While the attached photos date from 2006, the BelAir looks very much the same as it’s been kept in a separate garage shared with a 1966 Ford Country Sedan 6-passenger station wagon driven just under 55,000 original miles.
