ABOUT US

The Vintage Chevrolet Club of America is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and enjoyment of Chevrolets and GMCs. Members receive 12 issues of the monthly magazine, Generator & Distributor, and can also take part in the many activities sponsored by the VCCA, including our “members-only” chat room, tours, swap meets, car shows, regional meets, judging, technical advice —and a National Anniversary Meet every five years; commemorating our founding in 1961. Next meet is in 2026 .

Being a member of the VCCA is a good way to connect with other people who have similar interests. You do not need to own a Chevrolet or GMC vehicle in order to become a member. All you need is a love of Chevrolets or GMCs!

In June of 1961 twelve Chevrolet collectors and enthusiasts such as yourself, met and created a non-profit organization for the preservation and restoration of old Chevrolet cars and trucks. This organization became known as the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, Inc.

In the past 60+ years, our membership has grown worldwide with members not only in the United States, Canada and also numerous International countries. With a membership of over 6,000 folks, we have many years of Chevrolet experience with fellow enthusiasts and technical advisors who specialize in particular model and years.

In addition, the VCCA provides its members with an outstanding, award-winning, monthly magazine, called the Generator & Distributor. The G&D features a full color photograph of a member’s Chevrolet on the covers, historical information, technical data and specifications, special interest articles, region information, restoration tips and stories on member’s cars. The articles are enhanced with excellent photos to make the reading enjoyable.

Our members submit articles and pictures. One of the outstanding features of the Generator and Distributor is the classified section, which includes: Cars and Parts for Sale, Cars and Parts Wanted, as well as Services Offered. Your Membership includes limited free advertising every month in each of the categories, excluding commercial vendors. Special rates for the commercial vendors are available. This is a good way to find those hard to get parts.

The Vintage Chevrolet Club of America invites you to share our enthusiasm and dedication to the preservation and restoration of Chevrolets and GMCs, and to enjoy the fellowship of its members through national and regional activities.

Introduction

The popularity of driving our Chevrolets and GMCs continues to increase in the VCCA. In an effort to support and enhance the experience the VCCA Touring program was developed, and consists of three segments:

  1. Tours
  2. Vehicle Passport
  3. Touring Awards

Tours

Driven vehicle tours have been a part of the VCCA since the club was founded in 1961. Find upcoming tours in the Events Calendar.

In 2003, a Touring Committee was established to develop a program for the recognition of these driven Chevrolets. In 2014, GMCs were added to the program. The first and most important aspect of the program was to offer tours of various types across the country. A number of vehicle or era specific tours had been conducted for many years. This has rapidly expanded offering numerous types of tours.

A key factor of the program permits any VCCA member to be the Tour Master and to plan and conduct a tour.

Vehicle Passport

The concept of using a document to record a vehicle’s driven VCCA tour miles was developed in 2004. The document was designed to mirror a U.S. Passport. Each vehicle participating in the Touring Program can be issued a Passport at the owner’s request. It includes a photo of the vehicle, owner information and entry areas to record tour title, date and official tour mileage as indicated by the Tour Master. Unique to the VCCA, all Chevrolets and GMCs to current production are welcome to participate in the program.

For complete information see the Touring Guidelines Manual

Touring Awards

Recognition of the tour driven mileage was the final portion of the program development. Vehicle Awards, similar to the VCCA Class Judging Program were developed in 2007. The design consists of an oval with the likeness of Louis Chevrolet and stacking mileage tabs. A member upon reaching the following milestones may request award recognition:

  • 500 miles – Oval with Louis Chevrolet
  • 1,000 – 2,000 – 5,000 and 10,000 mile stacking tabs

Touring Awards may be displayed on the vehicle in addition to Class Judging Awards.

The VCCA Judges Manual is intended to help you not only understand the policies of the VCCA in regards to judging, but also to assist you in the preservation and restoration of your vintage Chevrolet.

From here you can begin to understand the judging process of the VCCA.

  • What class should you be in.
  • What are the judges looking for.
  • How can you improve your vehicle from the last judged show.

We hope the following will help you when getting ready for your first nationally judged VCCA show or you are trying to improve your points from a past judged show. Even if you aren’t going to have your vehicle judged, maybe we can help you in the restoration process.

The VCCA recognizes all years but only judges 25 years and older based on authenticity and condition.  Our Personalized Chevrolet Chapter recognizes and judges modified Chevrolets and GMCs.

Judging Questions

If you have questions on VCCA judging, the Judging Manual or the Judging Forms please take a moment to contact National Judging Chairman – Tim Larson.

Just what is Chevrolet Drivers Participation Class and why was it formed? For quite a few years some of us on the Judging Committee had been attempting to gain recognition for Chevrolets which are not intended by their owners to be show cars and that are described as “Drivers.” We felt that at National Meets this type of vehicle should have a place so they may participate, be recognized and awarded a VCCA oval to place on their vehicle. In 2004, Bill Lutkowski from Middle Village, NY submitted a motion for the VCCA to adopt a Drivers Participation Class leaving the details to be worked out by the Judging Committee. This motion was passed at the 2005 Board Meeting. After several attempts the Board approved the language of the Chevrolet Drivers Participation Class on February 20, 2007.

These vehicles, classified as drivers, must be visually representative of the VCCA’s mission statement of preservation and restoration of vintage Chevrolets/GMCs. Those vehicles which look like a hot rod in the body area, engine area or the other areas of the vehicle will not qualify as a CDPC vehicle. There are accepted upgrades and modifications which will not disqualify the vehicle from obtaining CDPC status which are outlined in the Judging Manual. Yes, this is a subjective form of certification where common sense and an understanding of the VCCA’s mission statement must be applied before recognition and an award is given. Again, this is to recognize Chevrolets and GMCs which are used as tour vehicles, weekend drivers and just your good old vintage Chevrolet or GMC keeper.

To see if your Chevrolet or GMC will qualify for a CDPC award, please look in the Chevrolet Drivers Participation Class portion of the current VCCA Judging Manual. We hope to see a large participation in this area at the upcoming National Meets.

The Judging Manual is available in the members only Resource Center.
