There is a nice 1929 Chevrolet 2 Door Sedan for sale at Mel Hambleton Ford in Witchita, KS. It says it is a Superior V model . I am trying to learn more about it...was there such a animal ? 1929 started AC National Series. Is that correct ? Looking forward to your helpful insights. Thanks in advance. Clement

According to my 4 cylinder parts book, the Superior V series covered the 1926 and early 1927 cars. Sometime during 1927, the Capital series started.

In 1928, the National series AA cars were produced.

In my six cylinder parts book (covering 1929-1941), the AC series applied to cars and 1/2 ton trucks.

I suspect you need to get more details about the car for sale in Kansas. For example, does it have the original ID plate and if so, what's on it? Does it have a 4 cylinder engine or an inline 6?

With more info, we can help with more informed guesses about what it really is.

Cheers, Dean

Thank you. It does have a 6 cylinder. I asked them for videos of it starting and running. I will ask for ID plate photos and more information. Appreciate everyone's time.

Hi Clement

The car Tiny linked to is a 1929 International AC coach.

Probably from the earlier part of the model year judging by the crankcase vent canister at the rear left of the engine block.

A quick look at the pictures suggests it's a pretty nice car overall.

The only thing I see that may not look quite right is the dash color, but that's trivial.

The area of the dash with 5 screws spaced across it should be the body trim color.

If it runs well, it looks good to me!  🙂

PS

Actually, the car looks quite nice.

The only things that stand out are the dash color, and the oval instrument panel should have been a patterned nickel plate (I think).

And the inside side window trim should be like a faux wood grain finish if I remember right.

All of these things are really trivial.

It even has the 4 blade fan upgrade!

Thanks, Tiny and Stovbolt. I didn't think it was a Superior V...not sure where they got that from. Thanks , those are minor incorrect things to me also. I am anxious to see videos. I don't know a lot about these cars ( I have never owned anything pre 1942 ) . I am sure to have more questions as I get closer to purchasing it ( assuming I do )   I know they have mechanical brakes. That will be a learning curve for me.  Clement

They sent me 3 videos of it running and driving. It looks and sounds good. The cowl tag shows Job # 8870  and body K 3003. There are some restoration pics and it looks like it was on the cover of G & D. I'll get more info. Thanks.

Hello Clement, looks like it has had a good restoration. Like Ole said there are a few things that might be considered incorrect. Concerning his comment about the instrument panel. Originally it was a silver crinkle paint. That paint is not being reproduced so a person has to use black crinkle paint and then shoot silver paint over it. For the dash panel colors refer to the service bulletin for the paint codes.

Thanks, Arthur. ( and everyone ) I appreciate the comments. It looks like 1929 did not have a fuel gauge on the dashboard . I see temperature, oil pressure, charging. Choke, spark. What is the knob on the extreme left ?  I am going to have them send me a video of them operating all the lights, horn, etc. to verify it all works.

Have you told them that there's no such car as a Chevrolet Superior V? 😀 I believe from left to right is Choke, Gas (hand throttle) and Spark. If I'm wrong someone will correct me.

Hi Clement

The gas gauge was right on the gas tank in 1929.

The filler cap was at one end of the tank and the gauge at the other.

And I think Tiny has it right regarding the knobs.

They were labeled C, G, and S, with the G meaning "gas" but looking too much like a C.

Later Chev switched to using a T for the throttle.

I have not told them that yet. Wonder where in the world they got Superior ??  Ohhh, ok...thanks for the additional info. Yes, 2 of the knobs look a lot alike.
