Chevrolet

This car was purchased by my Wife’s father in 1948. We have all of the original paperwork with the car. Purchased from Whitney Chevrolet in New Haven Ct.

The story goes that while picking up parts at the dealership (He operated a rather large auto repair facility) he saw car on delivery truck. Bought it on the spot, planned to pick it up next day after prep was complete. Later that day salesman called him and said he could not have the car, as it was special ordered for the owners wife. My father-in-law said no way I have a bill of sale and he picked car up the next day. The salesman was fired. In 1972 I was out to dinner with my future wife and her family, her dad said it was time to clean out back yard and all the old cars were going to scrap. I encouraged him not to scrap the 48 chevy, he said you want it, I said yes, he gave me the keys right at the dinner table. Next day the car was running and drove off the lot to save it from scrap yard. Since then it has been painted, new Hampton Coach interior, but drive train is original.we use it as much as possible all summer.
