I have purchased a new one of these to put on my grille when it comes back from the platers. However it is unpainted. Checked several photos and the background appears blue. Any hints as to the shade, hue, tint or whatever?

It should be a very soft yellowy beige.

I did mine in bright yellow years ago and its totally wrong.!!!!!! I used special proper pin striping paint, called ONE SHOT, thats enamel and it grabbed the surface and has been on there since at least the late 70's.

The february 2012 issue of G&D has the 34 chev on the cover in colour and you can see that beautiful soft yellow. In **one shot paint** you would need to mix white and yellow to get the shade right. Paint in very tiny cans is not expensive. I believe you can find it at artists supply stores or maybe online or ebay.

I looked up who is the 1934 master technical assistance and advisor in the G & D back pages.......you want to talk to RON LEVENTON 1-360--748--3643

good luck
mike

Looks like the roundel would be yellow with the bowtie blue. Correct?

Pat , i know the roundell part is a soft mello yellow, not sure about the chevrolet name part if its blue or not. Maybe one of the experts will pop into this and say their bit about it.

The 34 coupe on the cover of the feb 2012 G&D and the inside feature shots show the grill area........the name badge shows the mello yellow in the roundell area..........the chevrolet emblem design is a mid blue, not close up enough to see if the CHEVROLET on the grill badge is filled in with paint.

Here's my first attempt, I don't like the texture of the yellow. If the paint was too thin it ran to the corners, if it was too thick it showed the brush strokes. So I think I'll strip it and look for my old airbrush. That should make it more even. parking

Pat... instead of stripping it, lightly sand it, then air brush over it. Part of the problem is that paint doesn't stick to chrome very well. If you paint onto the sanded first coat, a thinner paint will "soak into" the paint with better luck then you were having on the bare chrome. I think if you go a couple of coats it will cover better. If you're going to strip it all off, maybe mask it and hit it with a good primer first. Ideally you would want to sand it to get paint to stick, but not at the risk of wreaking a beautiful chrome piece like that!

As posted earlier i used ONE SHOT sign writers paint, available on line or artists supply. It goes on a lot thicker and less runny than regular enamels.

Mine was applied in early 70's to rechromed unit and its still on there...........mike
