i have a 63 chevy 2 ss. the temprature guage recently stoped working. this evening i put a jumper wire from the plug for the sensor, with the sensor disconected, to ground. the guage pegged full hot when i touched the key to the on position. that is a good thing cause i belive only ss chevy twos had guages, the rest were idiot lights. so now the next task is to check the sensor, guessing with a ohm meter. my question is what should it read cool, then hot? thanks guys

Hi Bill,

Save your energy. If you ground the wire to the sensor and get a full deflection and no deflection when disconnected, the sensor is defective and should be replaced.

If I had known that growing old would be this much fun---I'd have done it sooner!

Another test connect everything up, warm the engine and connect a wire from sender case to a good ground or battery ground terminal if guage reads remove sender and clean threads.
