When did Chevrolet start using Amber Turn Signal Lenses? Our 70 Impala has clear or white lenses. I saw another original? 70 with amber lenses. Which is correct?

Both our 1969 and 1970 Impalas have amber lenses.

The parts book shows a different number lens for the Caprice .If my memory is correct the Caprice had a clear lens and the Biscayne,BelAir and Impala amber.The 1970 Dealer Albumn shows the Impala with amber.The Caprice front view shows the car with the lights on so the parking lights appear yellow.This would be true because the vehicles with clear lenses used amber bulbs.
Check the owners manual-bulb applications.If the parking light bulb for an Impala is a 1157 and Caprice a 1157A (A for amber) your question will be answered.
Amber lenses were required by law in 1963.If clear lenses were used amber bulbs were required.

Or perhaps the amber lenses didn't "go well" with a RED car....

Dug deeper into the albumn....says Caprice clear-others amber.

Now I am confused. The other 70 is a Capride with yellow lenses and the car is green.

Mine is an Impala with clear lenses and the car is red.

Both cars were HPOCF Certified so I guess it doesn't make much difference. If I break one I'll probably go amber.

Being HPOCF certified still doesn't mean that the parts are correct. I would go by the literature that is available for the correct application. Both my 1969 Impala and my 1970 Impala are original cars......and they have the amber lenses which, according to the literature, they should have. But, as you know, over the years things get replaced and "stuff" happens.

JunkYardDog I will probably never have the car judged again so I'll change the lenses when I break one. I looked in my literature after Gene answered my first post and it does show amber. I asked the question before I looked. I looked in my owners manual and it says 1157@.

Chevy went to amber lenses in 1963. I have had Chevys newer then 63 with clear lenses but they had amber bulbs.

I remember that I had a 60 Corvair and when the 63 came out with amber lenses we were glad to see the amber bulbs put on the market because it was cool to have amber turn signals. My original 68 Impala has amber lenses.
