I was at the Bushnell parts meet over the weekend. Spotted and purchased a little (4 3/4x 2 1/2) GM Tin box for storing the replacement bulbs. THe box is dark blue with GM yellow scrip and the classic GM logo in a square white outlined box. THe part # on the box Is 6(5?)02549. This is on a little label pasted over the original silk screen #. I have not peeled back the label to see what the original sil screend # is. It indicates the usual bulbs and is obviously pre 48 because it lists the head light bulbs as being in the box Can any one shed a little light on my find. I bought is to use a trunk display in my 50. Thanks.

My 1938 parts book lists #602549 as:
Lamp bulb kit (two 32-21 C.P. bulbs, one 1 1/2 C.P. bulb, one 3 C.P. bulb, four 20 amp. fuses)
1934--------DA
1935-38-----All pass.
1937-38-----Truck

I'm pretty sure that this bulb kit was pictured in a G & D issue but I don't know which year or issue it was in.

THanks for the info Doug. I have heard of these bittle boxes but had never set eyes to one. THey seem to be a bit rare, at least to me. It is a bit early to be presented as an item available in 1950. But it will make for curious interest and conversation as a trunk disply in my 50.

The article was on pages 16-17 of the September 2003 issue. The GM box was not pictured but the part number602549 is listed as 1936-1938 All.

Chipper,
How do you and JunkYardDogJunkYardDog know which issue all the articles are in. Is there an index for all the back issues?

Yes.

For the dog's collection, all of the G&D's are indexed in a card file by Mrs. Junkyard Dog after the magazine is read and before it is put on the shelf with all of the other past issues.

There is a index that was put together up to 1995 by a fellow in Iowa. Then there is the extention of the list that I have done myself. Sure would like to borrow Mrs. JunkYardDogJunkYardDog for a few months to do a bit of training for the "BOSS". Now that they both are collecting rocking chair money might not cost too much. It is also a bit easier to keep track when you author the article too.
