I am glad to see that John is doing this. I have known John for several years by him participating on our Early Six Cylinder Tours. John is always ready to help anyone in need. He is a super mechanic and all around nice guy. Good luck John and Scott on the Great Race.

This is an excerpt from the Lone Star Region's April, 2007 Bowtie Bulletin,

by Clay Perrine:

Quote:
This year the VCCA is a sponsor for a 1941 Chevrolet driven by member John Hudson in the Great American Race for 2007. The car will display the VCCA logo on it and will provide publicity for our club. The race will be in Texas July 6th through July 9th.

The racers will be in the Lewisville and Irving, Texas area for an overnight stop and also a Sunday day off.
Members of The Lone Star Region have volunteered to be present, at many of the stops while the racers are in our area, to show the team our support, and to assist them in any way possible.

John is running the stock 1940 engine and 4.11 rear end and uses 5W-30 oil with no problems.....thought that was intresting.

Thanks for the info Gene, that is good to know. I was in Rapid City by happenstance one year when the Great Race spent the weekend at the hotel where My wife and I were staying for several days, it was quite an impressive event. I noticed a lot of the behind the scenes happenings that were very interesting. We also picked up a lot of the goodies the various teams were handing out.
If the race comes your way it is well worth spending some time there.

If you ever get the chance to participate in either one of their two day events or the full Great Race do it. I participated in one of their two day events with our stock 31 Sport Coupe. My brother was my navigator. We finished second the first day and first the second day which made us second over all. It was a great experience and a fun filled two days.

The Race psssed thru Colorado while we were in GJ.Some of the guys went down to Durango to say hello to John.Durango was a stop over.
John went up the west coast after the race and came back the northern route.Just him and his grandson. He called me from northern Wisconsin and was going to stop down and see me but we had some other problems at the time.Did get to see him at the Eastern 6 Cyl tour in Sept...and that '40 just keeps rolling along.

John and the other racers passed through Maggie Valley, NC for a lunch stop yesterday. John's Chevy was looking good and was I believe the only prewar Chevy in the race. He's representing the VCCA extremely well, with handouts, logo on the car, etc.

Seeing all these beautiful old cars, both stock restorations and recreations of custom racing machines, was fabulous. I strongly encourage those of you who live near the route to visit either a lunch stop or an overnight and have a look. There are some really beautiful vehicles involved and lots and lots of unique machines.

All the Best, Chip.
