What year did a tool kit become standard in all new Chevrolets?

This is a reverse answer...The tool kit came with the car (hammer, wrench, pliers, hammer, etc.) up thru 1948.After that the kit was sold thru the Parts Dept as an accessory. Is that what you wanted to know?

So some form of tool kit was standard right from the first Chevy made?

Concerning the Tool Kit. It is correct to understand that Chevrolet provided tool kits with ALL of the cars built as standard equipment right up until 1948. After that, you could order a tool kit as an accessory up until late 1966 when Chevrolet took the tool kits out of the parts books. A spark plug socket, a screwdriver, up to 3 open end wrenches, adjustable wrench, hammer, pliers, jack and jack handle and jack base were some of the most common standard items included with the cars. To see specific information on your car, check out my website. If that doesn't answer your questions, feel free to email me. I may have some of the tools for sale if you are looking for originals.

I see in my parts books a listing for the tool kit but I can't find a listing for what tools are in the tool kit. All of the tools listed after the kit could not possibly fit in the tool kit. I'm looking for some documentation rather than an opinion. Thanks for your help.

Backroads what year are you looking for I pictures of tool kits for the 1934-37 trucks and for the 34 Master car. All the tools did not fit in a pouch; jack, tire iron, jack handle, tire pump, engine cranks are all too large. Tools in the pouch would be wrench(s), pliers, adjustable wrench, screw driver, spark plug wrench, valve stem holder, possibly oil can and lube gun.

I am lookint for something in Chevrolet literature that spells out what tools are in the tool kits. Any and all years up through 1948.

The Chevrolet truck Salesman Handbook (34-37) has a picture of the Chevrolet tools supplied with trucks. I have a GM Motors World publication with a photo of the 34 Master tools.

Thanks Guys. You gave me more documentation than I have ever gotten from other sources. I have always gotten statements like "that is what was in my car when I bought it". Of course that was when the car was 30 years old. Another one is "it is believed to be". I was looking for documentation and not opinions.

If you are interested in Pre-29 cars, the picture of the contents of the toolbag are shown in the parts book(s).

I was looking thru some newly aquired Chevrolet Dealer information suppied by the Chevrolet Factory Parts Dept. Tire pump and oil can removed from tool kit (Jan. 7 , 1938) Effective with the resumption of production after Jan. 1st, the tire pump, p/n 358504 and the oil can p/n 344600 will be omitted from the tool kit at all assembly plants. It goes on to say; This means another outlet whereby you can increase your gross profits by making a display of these items in your dealership for prospective customers, and we would like to suggest that you carry a stock of these two items on hand so that you may sell the same with every new car sale.

Most of the tools are easy to find at garage sales, antique shops or as indiviual pieces on e-bay, just know what your looking for. Most people sold or junked their worn out car but saved the tools for there next car or for the garage. Tire pumps and correct jacks are the hardest to find (at least for the 30's).
