Would the alternator for a 74 Nova with the 350 engine be the same as as the one used on a 70 Impala with the 350 engine? I have a spare for the Nova and would like to know if it would work on both cars. After having one give out on me on the Nova on a trip I carry a spare.

They should be different.The 1970 still had an external voltage regulator.In 1971 and up most models had an internal regulator (built into the alternator)....See if you can find the regulator under the hood of your 1970.

Also check the electrical plug. The external regulator had a different plug than the internal regulator.

Pump Jockey if you want to use the 74 alternator it's a simple conversion. Take the field wire to the old regulator and splice a wire from it to the "F" terminal (brown wire) on the new generator.This wire is hooked in series to the generator light on your dash board. This will power the generator fields. The B+ terminal is connected to the alternator output terminal that goes back to the battery. That's all there is to it.
