Can someone please identify two ignition coils that I have? One has Delcoremy 538 on it, and the other has Delco-Remy 1115351 on it. Thanks.

The 538 was sold by Delco as a universal replacement coil. Its listed as fitting 1928 thru 1940 Chevrolets.Requires a seperate adaptor that will accept the eletrolock cap on many cars. The adapter for a 1933-34 Chevrolet is 1863089.Also required a special bracket. For a 1933-34 chevrolet it was #1871821.
The coil also fit various models of Pontiac,Oldsmobile,General Taxi,Reo,and Graham.
Still looking for the 1115351.

I thought that the 1115351 number looked familiar.I have a coil with that number stamped on it also.Have never been able to identify it.Its in a Delco-Remy box with the number 1915430 stamped on the box.Under that number written in pencil is 1115066-probably an earlier number. The coil comes with the eletrolock adapter 1863090 which is used on 1935-40 Chev,1935,36 and 1940 Olds and 1935 to 1940 Pontiac plus some orphans. It also comes with a cad. plated mounting bracket. Its listed for a number of cars including 1929-40 Chevrolet. Its the coil made after 1940 as it does not have the gold ring on the bottom.I would guess its was made in the 1941-48 times.Years ago I dug thru many Chevrolet Dealerships and some were dualed with Olds.I also "collected" Olds parts so could be for the Olds also. The oldest Olds parts book I have is a 1948 and its not in there. The coil numbers were changed frequently back then.Would make a nice coil for a 1935-40 Chev although it is not 100 percent original looking.Painting the mounting bracket black would help. With the correct adapapter it would be good for a 1933-34.The original coil on cars with the eletrolock did not require an adapter,The mounting flange was built into the top of the coil.

Gene, thank you for taking the time to research this. These are coils that I bought several years ago, and I had forgotten that I have them.
