Being a new member to this discussion board and the whole truck restoration thing, I was wondering what the member benefits are as a paid member of the VCCA as opposed to just a member of the discussion board...I have read about the membership on the website, but I guess I am just in search of how the members view the club....(if that makes any sense?? \:\) ) Oh, and can some one please let me know what the difference is between Chevy and GMC? I thought they were pretty much the same company...????

.....and, as a member, you can advertise free each month in the classified section of the club's magazine the Generator & Distributor.

Also, I believe that someone mentioned here a few months back that eventually Chevy Chatter will be for members only as well.

Thanks for the welcome, Joe. So what I'm gathering is that if I wanted to restore a '46 chevy truck (pending proper identification ...) that it would be very much to my benefit to join as a paid member since I have no clue as to what I am getting myself into, and as a member I could have access to people and resources that might be able to help me out with the things I can't figure out on my own?

Yep....as a VCCA member you will have free access to all of the Chevrolet technical advisors (the VCCA does not recognize GMC trucks) that are listed in the Generator & Distributor.

I'll take a crack at this.

Please keep in mind I’ve only been a member for about 2 years so this list may be incomplete. However this is how I list the "value {s}” of being a VCCA member.

1. Great Club.
2. Great Magazine.
3. Great Web Site.
4. Informative and entertaining Articles.
5. Back Issues.
6. Magazine help for “how-to” projects
7. On Line Help for “how to” projects.
8. Direct contact help for any project.
9. Free opportunity to sell or buy things on line
10. Free opportunity to sell or buy things in the magazine.
11. Part Numbers & references.
12. Price estimates.
13. Referral's for products, parts or assistance.
14. Manuals for assistance.
15. Direct access to Chevrolet knowledge.
16. 24/7* tech help. {*almost}
17. Hands on support.
18. Judging Standards & Information.
19. Chevy judging events.
20. Car Shows
21. Touring events.
22. Swap Meets.
23. Regional meetings & events
24. National meetings & events.
25. ***
26. International meetings & events.
27. Expert advice.
28. Conversations, both informative & entertaining.
29. Large Club membership standing.
30. National events
31. Regional Events
32. Chance to share knowledge.
33. On-line friends.
34. On-line help.
35. On line chat.
36. On-line reference information.
37. Parts & Prices comparisons.
38. National Connections.
39. International Connections.
40. Expert advice.
41. New relationships.
42. New friends.
43. Fun.
44, Laughs,
45. Entertainment.
46. Car Evaluations.
47. Photographs.
48. Education.
49. Camaraderie.
50. Chance to give back.
51. Free Hot Dogs. If you play your cards right.

Now some may say this list is redundant. But to me this list is short. Because actually there are 100 tangible benefits a person receives from being a VCCA member.

But this list will tell you why 30 bucks is a GREAT value. Possibly the best bang for your buck you will ever get, if you own or want to own a Chevrolet.

So welcome and please tell your friends...... \:\) \:\)

The differences between Chevrolet & GMC varies with the year & model. Most use the same cabs with different interiors, Frt. sheet metal, hub caps, and engines for a few; much the same as they are now.

Thanks, seems hard to argue with that list...although #32 might be a long way off for me... ...but I guess if I gotta start somewhere, sounds to me like this would be the place. Not too bad for finding it by accident...Now if only my truck would show up so I can get started.........

Probably the best thing about joining the VCCA for you will be that you'll learn how to tell the difference between Chevy trucks and GMC trucks.
To sum up Mike's post, it's worth the $30 bucks!

I can see that several other VCCA members enjoy the Club and the Chat as much as I do. You can get any and I mean any question answered on the Chat about Chevrolets. I have a feeling that several members are knowledgable about other "makes" of automobiles but we are not allowed to talk about those here. The G&D magazine is worth the dues. I don't know if I could top Mike41 list but I concur with his list and any other compliments anyone has to offer.
Thanks to the Club officers, TA's, Moderators and everyone else that contributes to the "best" car club. \:\) JIM

Yeah, some of us have to confess, before youall Chevrolet devotees, that we have had other makes of cars before, I had a Studebaker, and a Model A F0RD once, and almost bought a Mayflower once. But when I got big (14 years old or so) I saw the light and heard the Gospel, and have been a Chevy man ever since! Thanks Daddy, (even though you had a Dodge & a Desoto or two)... for leading me down the straight & Narrow road to Chevy-Land!
Amen........

Well I think I'm pretty much convinced I'd be missin' out if I didn't join. As I am only 30 years old and have never attempted to rebuild a truck, I'll need all the help I can get. I can only change my oil and tune up my car and replace my brakes if I have to, and thats about it. Although I think that's pretty good for a girl.... ;\)

I think that's excellent for a girl, and since you do your own tune-ups and brakes you already have an excellent start on restoring a truck yourself. Good going!

Actually, my husband does most of the dirty work, but I help him with it when I can. I figure if it's my car he's workin' on, the least I can do is learn something in the process.

Just because you are female doesnt mean you cant swing spanners or hammers. GOOD ON YOU.
A bit of grease and oil wont kill you, it will change the colour of your skin temporarily though.
As for joining VCCA, another point in your favour as someone said earlier all of your Chev questions will get the correct answer and qite often several.
Welcome aboard
Tony
