The cables are the same, but the brake cam housings are different in appearance. They are both interchangeable however. \:D \:D \:D \:D

Skip, What is the difference in appearance? I have two kinds. I don't know if they are '31 or '32. They both have the same number on them.

Yes, they both have the same number, but yet they are both different. The 1930 and 1931 brake cam housing has a solid raised part on back top and sides where the cable and the rod both enter from the back. On the 1932 housing, it is ribbed on the back top and sides of the housing in this area, and the area on top dips down in the center between the holes where the cable and rods enter. The 1932 housing is a replacement and a retrofit for 1930 and 1931.

This is another item where most judges don't know the difference. And, by the way, the brake cam housings are painted black, not natural.......much to the surprise of a few judges. \:D \:D \:D \:D

Cool! Glad that you are going against "opinion" and have them painted black. \:D \:D \:D

I have a collection of seven different brake cam covers. There are some produced by several diffenernt after market suppliers. There were some also produced by AC. After going through some small dicussions over the last few months, I am convinced more than ever, black is correct. I have a great example on my 32 Phaeton. There is still some residual black, not much but there is some showing, and the backing plate is is absolutley clean of paint under the cover. The paint has an exact outline of the brake cam cover. If you have a "Prospect" film #19 for 32, about the sixth frame, you'll see a black cam cover.

Yes, my documentation proves the same......the brake cam covers were black. They would have to be since they were painted with the backing plate and the axle assembly as a unit, as you discovered on your phaeton. But, getting actual documentation to override "opinion" is tough to do in the judging process. However, eventually, we will get there. \:D \:D \:D \:D \:D
