Hey guys - please help me out again - I am getting pretty confused. I found pix of 1929 and 1930 3 window coupes on the internet. My car has solid wheels - which 1929 pix show is 1929 model - pix of 1930 models show wire wheels. The rad grille on mine is definately a 1930 grille. The steering wheels on the 1929 on the net is wood and the 1930 ones on the net - the steering wheel is black rubber. Mine is wood. Did they make such a thing as a 1929 1/2 model? The guy I bought it from swears it came the way I got it. They changed the distributor to a vacuum advance 1933 one because his dad had trouble working the spark as he got older ( he was over ninety when he died). I found an original 1930 distributor complete with cable and mount and spark knob - which the fellow wants $50 for - I am going to look at it tomorrow at the big antique car swap meet up here. Hopefully I can find a vacuum wiper motor at the same time - any number on the wiper motor to look for to get the right one?. Thanks in advance for any help identifying this car. There is no plate on the body that I can see for more info - just the casting number on the motor. If there is a serial number on the motor - where would I look for it?

All 1929 and 1930 Chevy passenger cars and trucks had wood steering wheels. Only the passenger cars had the rubber spoke covers on the wood wheel and the trucks did not. The three spoke hard rubber wheel that is on your car is a 1931 and up wheel which was used as a replacement on the 1929 and 1930 models, and it is not correct.

The engine serial number is stamped on a machined surface that is located on the block directly behind the fuel pump.

1930 standard coupes had disc wheels, and the 1930 sport coupes had wire wheels. However, after April of 1930 all passenger car models came with wire wheels.

Thanks Junkyard! My car HAS the wood steering wheel. Went to the antique car swap meet up here - the guy who said he had the right distributor and would bring it - forgot and got snarly and told me to drive 4 hours to his place and take it off myself if I really wanted it for $75.00. Will look for another source - didn't like his attitude. Did manage to get a dome light and rear view mirror - though - both in very good shape and only $3.00 for both! Picked up a set of NOS screw on hubcaps for $12.00 for the set. They are much nicer than the dinged up ones I had. Also picked up a Klaxon horn (not for this car) in very nice shape - motor driven with an 8" long horn cone - works great - I couldn't refuse for only $15.00!!!

moedip, sounds like my kind of swapmeet, you had more luck in one trip than I have had in 2 years.

Nice job. \:D

Hi Chevy29 - yeh - was great! This is a large meet with over 50 sellers with everything from old manuals, NOS carb and fuel pump kits, and tons of other stuff. The Antique Car club up here has it every year in May. If anyone wants - next year - send me a list of things you are looking for and I will try to find for you when I go next year. Caveat is - price must be right unless you specify "get at any cost". Great web site! Now if the D$#% snow will quit coming - I can get going on this car! Normal highs for this time of year up here is 75F which we got one day this week - and now back to 29F with flurries tomorrow. Strange weather this year!

Hi, moedip. Having a Chev 1930 Phaeton myself, I have followed the discussion with great interest and picked up some useful tips. Regarding the spark knob and the distributor my instruction book says the knob should not be pulled when starting and driving. However, driving uphill or with very low speed the knob can be pulled out a little to avoid engine knock. The book does not mention any procedure for starting by handle cranking in case of a flat battery, but I think pulling the knob for low ignition would be correct. The ignition timing is called semi-automatic. There is no vacuum advance, the timing is fixed up to an engine speed corresponding to about 21 mph (35 kmph). Then the centrifugal regulator will advance ignition automatically when speed goes up. It seems you have good access to parts over there. Any idea where to get a rack for a Chev 1930 folding top, any of you?
