I was just looking through some of the pages of the radio manual. One of the static control devices offered, fit inside the front wheel bearing dust cap. The is the most weird accessory that I have seen yet. Has anyone actually seen one of these sold or installed?

Chev Nut, did you ever hear the idea behind those things? The only thing that I could guess is that they thought the tire or wheels were building up static??
The instructions say that they can't be used on the 1 1/2 ton and up.

During the 40' and early 50's the composition of the tires caused extreme static in the accessory radios. To overcome this problem the front wheels received the spiral spring inside the dust cap. A slider contact was used on the rear tires. In the early 50's an injector was available to inject graphite powder directly into the tube/tire. This procedure was discontinued during the 50's when it was discovered that an additive to the rubber used to manufacture the tire would serve the same purpose. The May 88 G&D contained part one of an article on interference suppression and part two was in the Jul 88 G&D.

Thankyou for that information, very interesting. I wonder what the tire ingredient was that was such a problem?
