You are looking at 1/2 of the Model 600249 Chevrolet radio, correct for all models of the '33 & '34 cars, not trucks.

As many cars were open cars at this time of our history, and we had a very different class of people, it was not uncommon for people to enter your car to sit and rest while parked on the street. This was extremely prevalent in my hometown. As the radio was wired directly into the power source anyone could operate your radio. The current draw was extreme for the early radios and batteries of questionable quality. Almost all early car radios were equipped with a key lock to prevent the operation of the radio by unauthorized personnel, which would quickly run down the battery.

Thanks Ray, that is very interesting!!!!!

Must have been back in the days when we never locked our homes even when not at home and never ever locked our car doors when parked on the streets downtown. \:\( \:\(

Now we have to lock up everything all of the time! \:\( \:\( \:\(

Thanks, Ray. I had never heard that before. Gee, get in somebody's car today without permission and you'd have a good likelyhood of being shot!!! \:\(

So to be authentic to the time period of the car/truck it would be all right for us today to get into the early cars/trucks at the shows without permission, Right????. \:D \:D \:D

NOT!!!!!!!!

P.S. Hope you haven't locked your radio.

Houses were not locked either. Most of the roads were gravel/dirt and houses were built several hundred yards back from the road because of the dust. When you were away from your house, the rocking chairs on the front porch were turned around and leaned against the wall so people could see from the road that you were not at home and save them the walk/ride up your lane.

Have times changed or what?

Ya, if you try that trick today with the rocking chairs on the porch, when you get home your house will probably be empty and the rocking chairs will be gone too! \:\( \:\( \:\(
