Actually the only antenna available for the 1946-48 car was a cowl type, part number 985995 and sold for $7.50. This was a three section extendable antenna. The end was a ball.
The "Red Ball" antennas were made primarily by Motorola and Philco. They came in both rod and whip types, extendable, 3 and 4 sections and were topped off with the red plastic ball. Although the steel ball antenna is correct, the red ball draws the most attention.
1947-48 commercial units, when equipped with a radio, used the rod type antenna.
All radios and antennas were dealer installed accessories for this time frame. (This was my job back in those days).
