Ok here are some numbers to play with. My 1948 flatbed is a Loadmaster serial number 3RK-G 2992. The engine block is stamped AFEA443144. See what you come up with. I sent them before but I don't remember what the verdict was.

Vehicle 3RKG 2992
3 = St. Louis assembly plant
R = 1948
K = 4400 series 1 1/2 ton
G = July ( 7th letter = 7th month )
2992 = 1992 such unit assembled at St. Louis

Engine FEA443144 or AFEA443144
F = 1948
E = 6000 series vehicle
A = Flint Built
443144 = engine serial number (1st # = 1001)

Note: The assembly plant was to stamp "A" preceeding prefix leters (in this case FEA) if the
Engine Assembly was used on a 4000 series vehicle with RPO 225. The part number for this engine is 3835301.

Thanks again Oldie, but the stamp is definately AFEA 443144. I'm thinking that the assembler stamped the A on accident.

Your number is correct. I don't know what RPO 225 is but that's the reason given for the "A" added in front of the normal numbering system. The assembly plants had instructions to add The "A" if RPO 225 was added. Normally the engine you have would have been installed in a 6000 series vehicle according to the details I have.

For the 1948 4400 series truck, RPO 225 F is listed as the Heavy-Duty Engine. RPO 225 H is listed as the Heavy-Duty Engine (for Hydrovac). This information is from a 1948 dealers factory list-price book used to write up orders. Hope this helps.

Man, I'm jealous! You still have your original 1948 235! Mine is long gone and came with a 1953 fp 235 out of a car. The "A" is there because its a 235 and not the standard engine for that model. The 1 1/2 ton trucks came with a 216 like the 1/2 to 1 tons, but were the only trucks to have the optional 235 which was standard on all 2 tons. It took three people, but now you have all you need.

Since I got mine for $125 I'm only slightly green. Is yours a 3 or 5 window? You plan on keeping yours original like me, right? Too bad we didn't live closer to each other.

It'a a three window Biggreen. Yes, it will be all original when I'm done. I'm also going to do Dad's 53 GMC all original.
