Hey Virginia Fire Truck man,

Just speaking candidly, I'm not really a big fan of fire trucks.

HOWEVER, seeing one as cool as yours might start to change my mind.

Your '50 Chevy fire truck looks REALLY nice.

Congrats!!! And, thanks for posting the pictures.

Bill.

How did you get your engine down to bare metal like that? Looks like you sandblasted it. Good job on the truck! It looks beautiful!

If the engine was cleaned the same way as my local engine shop does it they soak it in a hot tank with some chemical that shifts just about anything. It certainly cleans it though unless it alloy then can eat it away.

It was washed in the chemical tank to boil out anything that needed to be cleaned out.

It's actually Virginia Beach Virginia but the area of the city is called "Thalia." It used to be part of Princess Anne County before there was a city of Va. Beach.

BTW: Thanks for the compliments on the firetruck.

virginiafiretruck , That is quite an enjoyable tour thru your website and photo albums. Thanks for posting the link. I have wanted to "fix up" a small 30s to 50s Chevrolet based pumper. My problem has been having a trailer or truck that will transport one. I haven't had a career as a fire fighter, I have been a VFD member since I retired from a civilian job, and used my past truck experiance to do some repair work on a couple of the departments surplus older pumpers.
Thanks for sharing your site. Was the Thailia restoration a personal restoration or done by your department?

Thanks. It is a project I'm doing as a gift to my department so I can build a fire history museum. It was not funded with tax dollars. Sometimes folks would make an inkind donation of parts or cut their labor rate and sometime cash donations happened when folks looked at the effort I made. I have a new web site for the fire station and history museum I'm trying to get off the ground: http://www.thaliafire.org or http://www.thaliafire.com Anyway, it is up and running again! Take care
