My brother has a 1951 series 6000 truck. But he is not sure if it is the original engine to the truck.

The engine number is JAD 387398. Can anyone shed more light on the heritage of this engine?

Thanks!

The "JAD" prefix indicates the engine is a 235 cubic inch, and was originally installed in a 1951 passenger car, equipped with Powerglide.

The digits that follow the letters are simply the sequential build number for that year's production.

The original engine for a 1951 5000 series COE 2 Ton truck (235") would have been "JDA" (or "JAM"). Are you sure the "D" and "A" aren't turned around?

For a 6000 series 2 Ton truck, the prefix would have been "JEA" or "JEM."

Guru,

Appreciate the quick reply. The letters and numbers were given to me by my brother, so I may have some dyslexia and gotten things transposed!

I'll check with him again to verify the letters.

The two engines were actually the same except the Power Glide engine had hydralic valve lifters which required a different camshaft and the lifters bores were drilled to feed oil to the Hyd. lifters. The solid lifter engine will have more rocker arm/valve clicking noise.
