Hi David,

Quote:

Does this mean that only the starter is turning or is the engine turning at this time? May be a blank spot on the ring-gear (teeth missing) or we have an actual starting problem. One thing at a time.

Remove the air cleaner and by hand operate the throttle. Check to see if the automatic choke 'sets'. (This is done with a cold engine).

One step at a time.

Ray,,,we took off the air cleaner,,tryed starting it,then the wires started smoking(by the firewall)I put in new condenser and rotor earlier in the day,,i tried starting it then,it ran good for about a minute then it conked out,,,again,,i got my buddy over,,,that's when the wires started smoking,,,well we took off the tape, traced the wire/s(one wire was spliced into 2)to the coil,we played around with that for about 5 minutes and she finally ran good,,,now i was wondering,if i burnt the points or is the coil getting bad,,,Dave \:o \:\(

Take a close look at the coil and see if it has any information printed on the outside about "Use with External Resistor", or any remarks about a resistor.
