how can we tell if we have the correct horn in our '40 kc 1/2ton?..I recall JunkYardDog saying ours is not original...

The correct horn is painted black and had a bracket that bolts unto the intake manifold.Bolts to that funny little thing that cast in with the manifold and has two holes in it-sticks up ahead of the carb.The horn projector is about 10" or 12 " long 4" in diameter and has a round domed cover ont the back held on with a screw in the center (cover about6").I just sent in an ad to the G&D last month listing a horn and bracket for sale.It is a new truck take off (taken off when the accessory dual horns were installed).It looks new.If you need more accurate demensions let me know and I check them out tomorrow.Horn will be in the May G&D.

thanks...I'll check our dimensions...what's it supposed to sound like when operating correctly?..ours has a rather high tone (similar to an old '60s vw beetle horn)...

our projector is pretty short, about 6"...

also, just for reference, there's about 12" distance between the mounting flange of the manifold and the radiator...

otherwise, everything else is as you described...

I would think that the truck should have more of an authoritative tone...

Boy, did I screw-up on that one.Yes, the horns from 1937 and up were the shorter version.The horn and mounting bracket I have is correct for :p 1934-36 Master cars and trucks.Good you helped me catch this error before I shipped them out to someone.
