Anybody know anything abuot PTO's and what interchange? A friend at work gave me a "55" F-600 with a dump bed hoist{I mean like free}. Will the pto off the ford mount on my 6400 chevy? The ford hangs on right side of trans, and chevy cover plate is on the left side. There's no hurry, the ford is out in my field and I won't mess with it till warmer weather.
Thanks Don King

Don, I don't know (do F**Ds motors rotate to the right like REAL TRUCKS?) But if you have a Driveline Specialty store near you they will know, I have used the one in Midland for all kinds of things from u-joints, drive shafts and for all kinds of PTO riggings. Did you ask the Chevrolet truck dealer near there where they get PTO parts from?
I can't believe we didn't get more replys on this subject. No more truck riggers out there?

The PTO from the F-600 may bolt up to the Chevy Trans., I'm sure they are both SAE 6-bolt appertures, but the drive gear in the trans. will be different: number of teeth, helix (RH or LH) or spur, pressure angle, install depth and Drive gear forward or rear of apperture centerline. I guess your 6400 has an SM420 trans. PTOs and parts are still available from the mfrs, Chelsea and Muncie, for this transmission. The Ford truck could have one of several makes or models of trans.
