I have noticed that when prices are not listed with a part for sale post then it is typically followed by post(s) asking the price(s). It seems that prices in the posts would save time and space. What do you think? If you have comments on why you voted one way or the other I would be interested.

Hello ChevyChip: Posting the prices sure makes life easier for everyone involved, both the seller and the buyer. Let's run the site like the VCCA's Generator and Distributor Magazine. Let's post the prices!
Thanks ChevyChip for the great idea of having a way to poll all of us with your survey. I look forward to the final totals.

Not everyone has the same selling style. If sellers are not allowed to place ads as they want to, they will sell someplace else, and the members will loose out.

I voted yes that prices should be posted and also feel the same way as "Toolman" but on further thought the main difference here is that this is "instant" where as the G&D has a lag of two months. Also what if there is an item on E-Bay, and the seller wants to put a notice that the item is up for bid? Or another member see's something that they want to pass on? Maybe we can have another thread for that type of post such as a "Bay Watch" where items of interest can be posted to share with other members, where there is no need to post a responce. Just a thought! This whole electronic part of the hobby is going to change many things in the next few years, as it already did.
Merry Christmas,

I prefer to have prices posted in the ad. I feel it would save time on both the seller's part and the prospective buyer.

I also "prefer" to see prices posted... but you need to know that I get a lot of email from people asking me "how much" something should be worth.

It would be nice to accomodate an average public-joe who comes to our site to find out a price for something PRIOR to them posting it for sale.

Any ideas on how to do this? A new forum?

By the way -- Happy Holidays one more time!

Being fairly new at restoring my car, I have no clue as to what to pay or what to ask for certain parts such as I'm sure I'll need an oil pan for my '31. What are they worth? It would be nice to have a forum to gather such information. It would then be easier to list a selling price.

Jerry, As far as prices and what it is worth all depends on how bad you need it! I just bought a NOS Delco ignition switch for a 62 I am trying to finish off, paid $80 for it, WAY TO MUCH, but I needed it, my old one burnt up on the initial start-up. I must have walked past dozens of them for $30-50 over the years, they really look like a good deal now! The sad part is when you really don't know the price, you don't know a good deal and by time you find out it is, the part is long gone to the guy who is going to sell it for the top dollar. If you need to get a feel for the prices look at every classified you can get and you will develope a good feel for it. I found over the years that when the ads are free such as here many sellers will throw out the highest price, because they have nothing to loose. Good luck with the search for oil pan
Merry Christmas again,
John
(now we are getting that Christmas snow storm, how come it looks like fun in the old movies?)

I would ask for someone that has a question about what the price is to post what they think is a fair price and maybe say additionally that the price is negociable, or maybe that They will take the best offer over $XX.

MrMack has the best solution: post a fair price
and if the seller has to have more, state best offer over.... One can always go down on price,
but never up. I also like the idea of "bay watch"
and would participate. Give it some thought.

Ditto for the Mr. Mack solution - I'd prefer to see a price, and in fact, I would feel silly posting an item for sale without a price myself - I don't have the ambition to haggle with someone, so I'd rather simply state what I want. On the flip side, if I'm really interested in making money selling something (and therefore leave the price off in order to induce someone to make a good offer), then, heck, why not just put it on EBay?

Besides, I don't need to make money off fellow members. I already make money from my employer! ;\)

I believe prices should be included in a "for sale" ad. When one reads an ad, among the first questions that come to mind is "how much?". Not including a price just makes for a lot of extra emailing & unecessary postings. If one is "fishing" for a price - put it on Ebay! My 2¢

"Why not just put it on ebay?"
EXACTLY!!! Except here members have first crack. When it goes on ebay, the item is being offered to everyone. Yesterday, one of you lost out on a nice 1932 radiator cap on ebay. You bid $10 on it and it was won for $139.65. If it was listed here first, the $10 bidder might have owned it for a reasonable price, if that was his goal. When the only question I get in response to an ad is "How much do you want for it?", I know right off the bat who I am dealing with. Taking advantage goes both ways.

In all my experiences of buying and selling, I have never heard someone boast that he got something for a fair price. I have heard a lot of comments like "Wow!, did I steal that!", though. ...and who determines what is fair, anyway?

Ed- I think you are mistaken in your last sentence. Your employer is making money from you! \:\(

I agree with you guys 100% the only thing is that this poster board is not closed to VCCA Members like the G&D, so we will get the guys fishing for a price, there is no way around it the way we are set up now.

Gee Guys and Gals if any,
I personally feel that posting prices are definately a time saver. I often will not take the time to ask the price if it is not posted because I have found that it is way too much for me to pay. I am sure that I have passed up some real bargains.
I can't think of a reason that a price is not listed. Maybe some of you can come up with some good reasons. I don't think that the seller not knowing what he wants is a reason because the first question he will likely get it "How much?" The second is "What is the condition?"
Thanks to all that have voted and expressed an opinion. That is one way we can improve this site.

Chipper Dipper, You are positively 100 percent right. If the price is not on a Item for sale, I just pass It by and look at other parts with a price tag on It. I also have looked at real estate books that list houses for sale, And the same thing happens when they show houses without a price for It, I just pass It by and go on to other ones. I do not understand any reason for not giving a price for car parts when they are advertised. \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)

Well said, I never bother to inquire about an item for sale if the price isn't given.Anytime that I did I found the reason no price was listed is because it was way out of line. When I list parts for sale I state the price that I want out of the article,if its too high it doesn't sell, too low-well I recieved what I wanted and can't complain.

I like the idea of the prices being posted in the "For Sale" section but I also like the idea of another forum where we could ask if anybody knows the round about price of an item. Only those who would like to share this information would most probably use it. I think then the buyer and seller would be more closer "in the ball park" and probly more items sold and bought.

Where's the problem for not posting prices ? Personaly i usually make no effort to an item where the seller wont post the price.I assume its priced high and is'nt much of a deal, unless the item is a ''must have''Just like a car lot,if the car dealer doesnt want to put the price in the windsheild then its a drive by!
