MR MACK, I DONT KNOW IF THE CRANK HANDLE WILL FIT YOUR CAR. I DO HAVE ANOTHER CRANK HANDLE THAT IS LONGER THEN THE 32 AND IT MAY BE THE ONE YOU NEED. WHAT I NEED IS THE LENGTH OF THE 28 CRANK HANDLE. SOMEBODY OUT THERE MUST HAVE THE INFORMATION. THANKS \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)

Wacky Macky,
Curl your fingers and keep your thumb tucked beside the index finger. If you wrap it around the handle it will break your wrist. Like the movie "A Christmas Story" where the kids mom told him he would shoot his eye out with the BB gun. I tell you that you will break your wrist. The '28 starting crank is the same as the '31-32. The '29-30 is longer. Now how do you make sure that a starting crank is a '28, '31-2? First it does NOT have a socket on one end!! The '33 Master is the first with the socket on the end. ;\) :p

CHEVY CHIP, CAN YOU GIVE ME SOME DOCUMENTATION ON THE 32 CRANK HANDLE,WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE,LENGTH, AND SO ON? IF THE CRANK HANDLE DID NOT HAVE A SOCKET ON ONE END, THEN WHAT WAS THERE TO TAKE THE LUG NUTS OFF. BILL BARKERS CARS, JIM FARRIS CARS, MY CAR AND BRUCE DEFORDS CARS ALL HAVE THE CRANK HANDLE WITH THE SOCKET ON ONE END. I CANT IMAGINE ALL OF THESE CARS HAVING THE WRONG ONE? THANKS DON

Well fellas, check your parts books for part number 348905 "Wrench, Wire Wheel Hub and Rim Bolt Nut" for: I, U, Ind, C ('29-'32 for those that don't know the code. Then a bit further down the page find part number 352768 "Starting Crank". Now check your '33 parts book and find part number 380853 "Starting Crank and Hub Bolt Nut Wrench" for E ('33 Master). I was suprized also as I always thought that the '31 and '32 Chevys had the starting crank with the socket on the end. \:\( If you want a bit more documentation and a photo of what is likely the wire wheel hub and rim bolt nut wrench see page 11 of the Jan. 2002 G&D. \:D
There ain't much that the ole Dog don't know but there is some!

Yep.....and then there is the listing in the 1934 parts book that states that the wire wheel hub bolt wrench fits ALL models from 1929 thru 1933! And, then of course, there is that totally all original low mileage 1932 Special Sedan in Washington that still has all of the correct tools that came from the factory in the tool tray, and for some reason the hand crank in that car's tool kit has a socket on the end (not to mention that the car also still has the super-rare vanity case in place too). And, then there is a 1932 filmstrip that shows some of the tools in the tool tray, and the hand crank just happens to have a socket on the end! Weird huh? Of course though, the old dog really likes weird stuff! \:\( ;\) :p \:D

Don,
You been into the Budweiser again? The picture in the Jan G&D is the wire wheel nut wrench not the starting crank. The starting crank has only two approx. 90 deg. bends and is 18 1/2" long overall. \:D

Just looked at the two cranks that came with my '31 and starting with the motor end the one without the socket is 7 1/4 in., 8 in., and 5 in. The one with the socket is 11 1/4 in., 7 in., and 6 in. The middle lenght on the socket one seems to bend towards the socket a little. jerrygolf \:D

Hey fellas check out the film strip "Double Check". It has a photo of the underseat tool compartment. The questions is is it a '30 or '31? Check the jack if you think it is a '30. Look close, you might just see part of the wire wheel lug nut wrench, jack handle, starting crank and oil can.

That one frame on "Double Check" does show the tool compartment, but the photo is strongly lacking in detail and it is totally non-conclusive as to what the correct hand crank looks like since the photo does not show the respective end of the hand crank handle that we are dealing with. It is a good shot of the tool compartment though, and overall, the film is extremely interesting to us 1931-32 Chevy dudes. Nice try Chipper but that photo ain't a gonna fly for the hand crank issue. Hum....To be continued.....! \:\( ;\) \:D \:D \:D By the way, I would like to have one of those Chevrolet shop coats that is featured in the film though. \:D

Well thank for the info, and the discussion, Howsomeever as Gloria R once said "Well never mind...." I picked up the '28 in Ridge Farm Il. ( 2350 miles round trip.) Yesterday and tonight I have it sitting on the trailer in my drive way, it is too dark to safely unload. It had a crank, wrenches, a funny looking jack? and other tools under the seat. More info and news of the old gal. as it appears ! Yeppie!
