If you are gonna go for it, I would suggest you hold out for a good 1928 motor and transmission. May cost a tad more than a single exhaust, but a much better solution.
What to look for, shake them doors, and check all over for looseness or bad wood. Check near the bottom of the cowl and around the bottom of the body for rust. Make a note of any other items than the motor and transmission that is missing or unserviceable.
