I put 5 gallons of gas in that ol car 3 weeks back. I hadn't run it more than an hour total.

That 5 gfallons was 1/2 tank. I checked it every few days to see how the gauge was. I even measured the gas in the tank. Yep, 1/2 full.

Then 3 days ago I looked and it was only 1/4 full. Then 2 days ago it was so empty the float was floppin around like a fish outa water.

WOW, I didn't think gas in a sealed tank could evaporate that fast.

It won't evaporate that fast in an open bucket either.

Maybe someone wanted gas and didn't want to pay the new higher gas prices

My uncle used to tell stories about hooking a magneto from a Model T (am I allowed to say that here?) to the body/frame of a car. Whoever touched it got fried. He did say you could stand on the running board and not get zapped though.

Anybody got an ol working magneto I can borrow?

They may have broken my gas gauge when they "borrowed" my gas too.

I assume you mean the wooden marked gage (usually kept under the seat) to check the fuel level by, as the first installed gage did not appear until the AA (1927).

Mine has a gauge on the tank. Like a lawn mower.

rbl2, before you wind up getting all in a tizzie, maybe you should check the level with a stick to see if the primary gauge is "Sunk & Stuck".

It was working before the evaporation. It's not now. I put another 5 gallon in it today and the gauge remained at empty.

I'm hopin it's just not feelin well and maybe by morning it will be feelin better and somewhere near the halfway mark on the gauge.

Have you added the fuel gage as 1926 did not have one?

No. I think what I have is a 27-28 roadster on a 25-26 frame. I believe the radiator shell is a 24.

Someone else here, JunkYardDogJunkYardDog I think, called it an "assembled" car.

I "think" I can get pictures in here today. I'll try that right now.

I don't know how long I can leave these pictures. I have them stored in a woodworking site that belongs to a friend. He's having problems with bandwidth or something and needs the space.

Well it certainly is assembled. It's assembled well enough to take it for a drive, anyhow.

Yea! It looks like it may have been parked by a 1926 at some time.

But what the hey, if it gets you from point A to point B, and you feel good, so be it.

I bought it while I was still in Baghdad. I could tell by the pictures it didn't look right but it had been 20 years or more since I had fooled around with any old cars besides my 46 Plymouth coupe, so I figured my memory was going.

And it probably is.

I also didn't have any pictures to compare it to and no way to do any research. Free time and computer time came at a premium in Iraq.

I bought it to have fun with. Not being all that authentic gives me some breathing space to do just that.

Would you all agree that the shell bears more of a resemblence to a 27-8 ?
