I'm having what seems to be a common problem. The Sun Visors in my '40 coupe don't have enough friction. That is they will not remain in the up position. (Yes, I've tightened the bracket on the end of the shaft on the visors.)

Lutty's Chev has a sun visor Grommet & Sleeve Set (part #03352, I think) for a '55 Chev. Does anyone know if this will fit/work in my '40? Also, I understand the function of the sleeve. But, what is the grommet for?

Thank you.

NO -It will not work in a 1940.The 1936-54 visor shaft is held by friction only.Tightening the screw is the only way to adjust the "friction".

Well at last I may be able to help some help.

I had this same problem with my '41 sun visor. And after a lot of attempts to repair it here is what I finally did; I took the visor off the shaft, carefully installed ONE strip of Black Electric Tape {on the shaft} and reinstalled it. Now the visor stays up nicely and no one can see the “fix.”

I know this fix may not be for everyone, but it worked for me.
Good luck
Michael
