Has anyone tried to remove the dash of a 46 pickup? Would like to take mine out for painting & have already removed numerous screws, bolts etc., but am now concrened there might also be some (hidden) welds holding it in place as well. Anyone have any insight as to how these were originally installed? Thanks

I don't know where you are headed, but now is the time to remove both windshields so you can replace the rubber, remove everything from the dash so you can paint the interior of the cab and dash. Then replace the windshields and reinstall everything back on the dash. YOU MAY WISH TO GO HERE AND LOOK AT THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THIS THREAD

Ray: thanks for your reply. Very impressive pics at the bottom of thread. Just looking to spiff up my '46 a bit as a weekend ride. Bought it last summer in PA. Paint in cab is in good condition except for the dash and doors. Thought I would redo those this year as part of my first project. Also need to replace throttle & choke cables, windshield regulator, and the light switch. Windshield is already out. Do you know if there are any welds holding dash in place? I was just working on it some more and think It's finally coming loose- grudgingly. Thanks for you help.

Hi, The dash should not be welded anywhere. I had mine out and repainted it a while ago. BTW, the original paint was a brown "hammer finish paint" that you can buy at Jim Carter's. The dash, door panels and trim pieces were all painted with hammer finish paint and the headliner was brown. The windlace was a brown leatherette material. Don't forget all the panel and trim fasterners were 10x32 clutch head machine screws. Again Jim Carter has all of this stuff. Hope that helps.
