OK, I guess this is the place to post this, not the 37-42 I usually post on.
Not being able to find any place within driving distance of Upstate South Carolina, who will even think about automotive "touch-up" plating, and not wanting to pay ridiculous prices and then wait for months to send it to FL, PA, WI, etc., I have been thinking about buying a brush plating kit.
The cost would be about $5-700 for a kit, but I would only be using it on a few mild rust and pits on my 40 Chev grill and one of the vent window frames.
Does anyone have any experience with this method? Is it feasible? Am I whistling "Dixie"?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Have used. The plating is very thin and the piece to be plated must be buffed to a high polish. The chrome kit is more like nickel than chrome. They do work but to get a thick plating it takes a lot of time and patience.

S Holland,
Sounds like you have had experience with this method.
I know all plating takes time, technique and patience. I used to work for a company that made plating additves - and even developed a few myself - I am just curious about the relative cost of buying a "KIT" vs sending the grill out for plating (and waiting, God knows how long, for the result.).

Doc, Check out the following site. electroplating in minature I have used their zinc plating setup with reasonable success. They have other setups including copper, nickel and chrome.

DocB I bought mine through my band instrument supply house. The nickle kit was $26.00 and the refill kit was $7.00. These prices are not regular retail. The manufacturer is JNT. The kits are ment for small area repairs. I used it on the pedal system of a player piano that I was restoring. It took the starter kit and the refill kit and that just covered it enough to look good. The kit used AA batteries but you can use a 6volt power supply (battery charger).
