I have seen a number of people ask about rubber gaskets for head light bar ,tail lights etc. I have found a better item than the gaskets that are offered .Since they are not a factory item they should not be visible and with the rolled edges they look bad. Try the rubber that they use on roofs of buildings ,it as about .045 thick very strong will last for ever.I cut gaskets a little oversize and glue them on with a little weatherstrip cement. Then trim with a craft knife and you really have to look to see them,No chipped paint and they look much better.Another plus it is scrap pieces that the local roofer throws away ,so its free.

Great suggestion Woody. When I finished restoring my 32, I used the gaskets you talked about and after finding out later that when the car was built, they used no gaskets and the different metal pieces were bolted to the paint with nothing. I took the gaskets off and used no gasket material at all on the cowl, tail light, and headlight bars on the 32. I lucked out and have had no paint chips at all. Your Idea Is great for people down the road who are In the process of putting their cars together. \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)

You can also use the rubber pads that are currently available, and after installation, the rolled edge can be trimmed off with a Exacto knife. \:D \:D \:D \:D

Hey Junkyard Dog, That exacto knife process sounds too scary to try.

Yeah or use your Buck pocket knife, or a straight razor. Keep a good sharp straight razor in your tool box. They are real handy trimming gaskets, top material, scrapeing innertubes to be patched etc........

I found that a tracing of the bar ends on 15# roofing felt and cutting with a utility knife worked well for me, and you can hardly see the gasket when installed.
