Hey Gator! Yep, paint number 124 for 1932 calls for black wire wheels. Different color combinations used different color wire wheels..depending upon what the paint number on the cowl tag called for. What is the paint number that is on the cowl tag of your '32 cabriolet??

All paint used on the wire wheels and the body, frame, chassis parts and etc. was gloss. Semi-gloss wasn't invented yet. \:D \:D \:D

JunkYardDogJunkYardDog, USING SOME OF THE ADVICE FOUND IN CHEVY CHAT I GOT TO AUTOCOLORLIBARYcm (GREAT PLACE)AND OF COURSE, JUST AS YOU SAID #123-124 SHOULD HAVE BLACK WHEELS. MY NEXT QUESTION TO YOU WOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT THE PINSTRIP FOR MY CAR, I THOUGHT THIS SITE HAD ANSWERED THAT QUESTION (COLOR BLACK), HOWEVER IT RAISED ANOTHER QUESTION. I SEE THAT FOR 1931 THERE IS A COLUMN LABELED "STRIPE", BUT WHEN IT BECOMES THE YEAR 1932 THAT COLUMN CHANGES AND IS LABELED "MOULDING". MY QUESTION IS; WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? OR IS IT JUST SEMANTICS? THANKS, GATOR

I guess that it would just be semantics because in the Duco paint charts that I have, they mention in both 1931 and 1932 about the "hood moulding stripe", the "lower body moulding stripe", the upper body moulding stripe" and so forth.

Job Number "32568" indicates that your car is a 1932 cabriolet.

Body Number "AG 74" means that your car was built in the Atlanta, Georgia factory and it was the 74th cabriolet built in that factory.

Can't help you with the Trim Number or the Paint Number since that information is not supplied on the cowl tag information that you posted. \:\(

Look again real closely. The Paint and Trim numbers were stamped into the cowl tag, not embossed, and some times they were stamped lightly. However, I have seen a few cowl tags where this information was missing. \:\(

JunkYardDogJunkYardDog, DO YOU KNOW IF THE COWL TAG WAS PUT ON BEFORE THE FIREWALL WAS PAINTED OR AFTER PAINTING? MY COWL HAS THE YELLOW PAINT ON THE TAG FACE, SO IF IT WAS STAMPED, MAYBE IT'S UNDER THE PAINT. ALL OF THE OTHER INFORMATION ON THE TAG INCLUDING THE JOB AND BODY NUMER ARE EMBOSSED. THANKS, GATOR

The cowl tag was riveted on after the car was painted, so it sounds like your car was repainted once before. Clean all of the paint off of the cowl tag and see if the paint and trim numbers are there. \:D \:D

Yes. But there is no need in removing it....let's see if you can find the paint number and trim number on the cowl tag first. Clean the paint off of the cowl tag and let me know what you find. \:D

Now....that's a whole different story! Your car was never painted Primrose Yellow and black (paint number 124). It was painted Bangor Beige and Haverhill Brown with black fenders and Cream Medium wire wheels. Also, the body striping was Cream Medium and the door belt insert was painted Medium Capucine Brown. A Gold Bronze stripe was on the fenders. And, for an extra added attraction, the rear deck panels were also painted Haverhill Brown. This is absolutely a beautiful color combination!

Trim Number 19 had a genuine leather seat, with imitation leather side panels (both the seat and the side panels had a Tan Spanish grain). The top was a Tan Teal. So....now ya know! By the way, your car came from the factory painted with Nitrocellulose Lacquer....in case you curious. \:D \:D \:D

JunkYardDogJunkYardDog, THANKS A TON F0R THE INFOMATION. IF I COULD HAVE ORDERED A COLOR IN '32 I THINK THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN MY CHOICE. WHO (OR WHERE) WOULD YOU GO TO IN ORDER TO PURCHASE THESE COLORS? WHAT "TYPE" PAINT WOULD YOU USE ON YOUR CAR? WHICH OF THESE COLORS WOULD BE ON THE FIREWALL? ONE OR 2 MORE QUESTIONS, DO YOU THINK IT WOULD HAVE HAD BLACKWALLS OR WHITEWALLS TIRES? I ASSUME THE FRAME PARTS WOULD BE A GLOSS BLACK. MY CAR HAS THE SPARE TIRE ON THE REAR. WOULD IT HAVE ANY COVERS (COTH OR METAL) OVER IT? I SAW A 2 PIECE METAL TIRE COVER ON E-BAY, BUT DIDN'T KNOW IF IT WAS AN ORGINAL ITEM. ALSO SAW SOMETHING CALLED WHEEL HUB RINGS, WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THEM? SORRY FOR ALL THE QUESTIONS, BUT REDOING THE CAR IS LIKE A NEVER-ENDING STORY. THANKS AGAIN, GATOR \:\)

Okay, here we go:
1. The original paint on your car was Nitrocellulose Lacquer and you can still get it in the correct colors from Hybernia Auto Restorations in Hybernia, New Jersey.

2. The firewall was painted body color, Bangor Beige.

3. Your car came from the factory with blackwall tires as standard equipment. Whitewall tires could be added by the dealer as an aftermarket accessory.

4. All chassis parts are gloss black.

5. Both metal tire covers and cloth tire covers were offered in 1932 as a genuine Chevrolet accessory. On the cloth covers, there were two types. Black for standard models and Tan for Deluxe models.

6. Hub protectors and snap spokes were also a genuine Chevrolet accessory in 1932. The hub protectors ("rings") were installed on the wheel hub under the hub cap. This protected the paint on the hub when the hub caps were removed. The hub protectors also had a little "bow tie" emblem on each ring. Snap spokes were stainless steel spoke covers that were "snapped" on over each wire on the wheel to give the appearance of chromed wire wheels.

SORRY TO TAKE YOU AWAY FROM YOUR "FRIEND", BUT SHE IS JUST A LOT OF HOT AIR ANYWAY. WE ARE TALKING SERIOUS STUFF - OLD CHEVYS - COUPLE OF FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS. IN THE "CHEVROLET COLOR SCHEDULE" THAT I DOWNLOADED FROM > (PAGE 2) IT SHOWS THAT 1932 MODELS HAD HAVERHILL BROWN (IM-1041) ON THE "LOWER" (?) AND BANGOR BEIGE (IM-1239) ON THE "UPPER" (?) AND CREAM FOR THE "STRIPE" AND CREAM FOR THE WHEELS. WHAT PARTS ARE THE "UPPER" AND "LOWER" EXACTLY? WHAT ARE THE "REAR DECK PANELS"? AND WHAT IS "TAN TEAL"? THANKS, GATOR

Actually, you have the colors in the reverse order. The Haverhill Brown is on the "upper" body panels, and the Bangor Beige is on the "lower" body panels.

Okay, the rear deck panels are the portions of the rear deck above, below and to the left and right of the rumble lid, and the rumble lid itself. All of this area is painted Haverhill Brown. The breaking point is at the crease of the rolled edge where it rolls down and meets the quarter panels. That area is called the upper body.

Tan Teal is the type of waterproof material that was originally used on the outside of the convertible top, and it was "Tan" in color. \:D \:D \:D

It all depends on when your car was made. Some cabriolets did have contrasting colors on the fenders at some factories, but after May 1st, they were all black. However, one thing to note is that with color combination number 95, Haverhill Brown fenders is way too much brown and it detracts from the rest of the car. Black fenders and a Gold Bronze pinstripe really enhances the Bangor Beige and Haverhill Brown color combination. \:\) \:D \:D \:D

HEY JUNKYARD DOG,HERE WE GO AGAIN. GOLD BRONZE WHICH I SEE IS USED ON DIFFERENT MODELS. I WENT TO THE AUTO PAINT STORES AND FOUND MANY DIFFERENT SHADES OF GOLD,DULL, BRIGHT, MEDIUM BRIGHT,REAL BRIGHT, BUT IT SEEMS FUNNY THAT THERE WAS NOT A FORMULA FOR ALL THE PINSTRIPPING COLORS, SURE I COULD PICK A GOLD COLOR BUT IT ALSO COULD BE WAY OFF FROM THE ORIGINAL COLOR SINCE I HAVE NOT SEEN A CHEVY WITH GOLD BRONZE STRIPPING. ????????????? \:\) \:\) \:\) \:\)
