3 weeks ago I purchased a 35 2dr Standard it arrived last week and now the fun begins!

The person who owned the car before me was starting to restore it and was kind enough to cut most of the origional wireing under the hood.....

I have identified the wires for the headlights.

I also assume the armored cable from the ignition switch goes to the negative side of the coil.

Im haveing trouble identifying the wires for the generator, how many wires and what terminals do they go to?

Also there are 2 wires comming from what I beleive is the gen cutout one is attached to the left end terminal and the other is attached to the center terminal.

I have attached a picture below

Thanks, Gary

The thing bolted to the firewall apears to be a relay of some kind..Or the generator cut out that is mounted on top of the generator. Was not a factory item.May have been installed as a helper for brighter head lights. Will not be shown in manual.
The coil is from a later model Chevrolet..1947-54.The original coil had a place to attach the cable and its cap to the top of the coil.

The armored cable in the upper left-hand corner of the picture runs from the ignition switch to the top of the original coil. There should be a cap that fits the original coil, but it appears the coil has been replaced.
As Gene says the cutout mounts on top of the (original) generator, but I'd bet that's been changed too. Let us know what model generator you have so we can help further.
It also looks like the ignition lead has been disconnected. That's the loose ring fitting that normally mounts on top of the starter contact. It looks like additional wiring has been added for another switch.
I strongly encourage you to buy a new wiring harness to sort things out. They come with diagrams and instructions, and the wire gauge will be correct for your car. You may have to track down the right coil, distributor, generator and ignition switch to make it 100%.
By any chance has this car been modified to 12 volt?

I have managed to sort out all of the wiring. The person I purchased the car from supplied me with a new harness that I plan to install at a later date. I never did figure out what the extra black box was for. I removed the box and the wires correctly attached all of the wires under the hood as well as the lights and everything seems to be working. I need to drop the tank and replace the sending unit to see if the fuel gauge works.

The exter black box appears to be a generator cut-out.Its is mounted on top of the generator -if you have the correct 3 brush generator.

Are you sure your generator is a 943U? It should be a 943J.
