Is there a ground strap from the engine to the frame on a 1954 BelAir? If so where is it located? I have looked but I don't see one. All help will be appreciated.

No, there is no ground strap. While on the subject of ground straps.....When Stremmels owned my '50 they had starting problems.Replaced the starter with no improvement. Then they replaced the battery ground cable and problem solved.Cable looked good on the outside but was decaying on the inside. The car still had the original positive cable when I bought it.Started OK but I replaced the positive with a "super" cable from Farm & Fleet just to be sure it stayd that way. Spins over almost like a 12 volt.
Thanks Gene. I think I have solved my starting problem. I replaced the starter this morning. Started the car and let it run about 30 minutes. Then Lois and I went for abour a 35 mile drive. Shut the engine off and restarted just fine. Waited 5 minutes and tried again. Still fine. Waited 10 more minutes and still turning faster and started quicker than in the three years I've owned this car.
I'm still going to try to find a 1 Ga. cable. That is what is called for on the wiring diagram. I don't know what size the cable from FS is but I'm sure it is not a 1 Ga by the size of the OD.

We have an automotive electric shop here, I just stopped by one day and asked them to build me an 01 cable, gave them the length and came back on lunch break and it was ready. Cost then was about $17.00, I also removed the ground cable (insulated) probably a 12v and replaced it with a reproduction woven cable. No starter woes for this guy.
