According to wiring diagrams, the original 38 Chevy had a voltage regulator with four connections; Bat, Gen, Field and Ingition. The replacements available today have only three terminals, Bat, Gen, and Field. Does anyone know for sure how these replacements should be wired? Is the Ignition wire just not used?

Thanks, guys. That's what I thought but wanted to verify. I am putting in a new wiring harness, so will just tape off that wire and move on.

Thought I'd let everybody know I got the new regulator and wiring harness in and all fired up. The generator generates, the regulator regulates, the battery charges, and life is good.

The 4 lead was P/N 1118203, I also have a 3 lead P/N 1118203, P/N 1118309 is also correct and is a 3-lead. I have looked for years and have not found a 4-lead. It is not a bad idea to have one or two extras. They range in price from $65.00-$175.00. Mac
