What year are you refering to? In 1950 the dash lights are protected by the circuit breaker in the headlight switch......For general use

Chev. used 16 Ga. wires for lights. The size of the fuse would depend on the number of bulbs as it depends on amp load. For five or six bulbs 10 amp. fuse would be safe.

My dash lites do not work so i am going to put a jumper wire with a fuse and hook the dash lites direct on the lite switch, i checked which terminal will be hot when the lites are on. I will not be able to dim them but that is ok. My switch is fine just the reastate is shot on the switch. I was wondering the proper wire and fuse size to protect the wiring in case of a short. On a 041 switch there is 3 terminals at the rear, they seem to be hot when the lights are on, i will hook one end of the fused wire to that and the other to the terminal going to the dash lites, does that sound right. Thanks Ross

One side of the switch has three terminals.Hook dash light wire to the center terminal,it is for the tail lights so it will be live whenever the light switch is pulled out.The rheostat in the light switch for dimming the dash lights is bad causing your problem.I have done the same thing with mine and the dash lights are are not too bright in the full on position. No fuse is necessary as it is protected thru the circuit breaker in the light switch.
